Yolobus Announces Free Rides on Election Day

All Yolobus Fixed Route, Paratransit, Microtransit Service Free November 3rd

WOODLAND, Calif. –The Yolo County Transportation District has just announced that its bus services will be provided at no charge on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd.  The idea is to open up the entire system for free to enable the public to get familiar with all the transit services that are available.  The other idea, of course, is to help residents in Yolo County get to election Ballot Drop Boxes and Voter Assistance Centers throughout Yolo County.

The free service will be available on November 3rd on all Yolobus fixed route, paratransit and microtransit services.  A fixed route bus runs on a fixed schedule at specified times.   A paratransit bus is an on-demand service available for senior citizens and persons with disabilities because they are unable to ride a fixed route bus or get to a fixed route bus stop.  A microtransit vehicle is open to the general public on certain days on an on-demand basis.

“You don’t have to vote in order to use these services for free that day,” said Jesse Loren, Chairwoman of the Yolo County Transportation District (YCTD) Board of Directors and Winters City Councilwoman.   “But we are also delighted to offer this service on Election Day, in case there are any residents who need a ride to vote and turn in their ballot on the 3rd.”

“I agree with Director Loren,” said Don Saylor, Vice-Chair of YCTD and member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.  “Re-introducing transit, with all of the mitigations we are undertaking during the Pandemic, while at the same time helping our residents get out to vote, are very laudable efforts that I whole heartedly support.”

Knights Landing, Winters and Woodland:   Microtransit, open to the general public, will be available from 7 am to 8 pm in all three of these communities on November 3rd.  Simply call (530) 666-2877 to request a ride.

For Seniors and Disabled riders: On November 3rd, Yolobus will provide free wheelchair accessible paratransit service in and between Woodland, Davis, West Sacramento, Madison, Esparto, Capay and Brooks, and downtown Sacramento during all Yolobus fixed route hours if the rider is unable board and use a fixed route bus.

For other riders:  Go to www.Yolobus.com to quickly find and use any of the many fixed route  bus trips that Yolobus offers to locations throughout Yolo County, and to Sacramento International Airport and downtown Sacramento.

Yolobus requires that children under 12 years of age ride with someone age 12 or older.

As a safety precaution during the pandemic, face coverings are required for anyone using these services.  Each vehicle is also equipped with a hand sanitizer dispenser, which riders are welcomed to use.

For those wishing to use any of these services to get to a Voter Assistance Center to obtain help in voting or to get to a Ballot Drop Box, the following information will help in understanding where those facilities are located.  The paratransit and microtransit driver will wait for you if you just want to drop your vote off at the Ballot Drop Box.  If you need assistance at the Voter Assistance Center, that will likely take longer and you will need to schedule your return trip time by calling Yolobus at (530) 666-2877.
